Jamey’s personal space

I know its been a long time since I updated my blog. I have been working hard on the new template for World Gaming, among other things.

Unfortunately, things have grinded to a halt due to some health issues that have come up in the meantime. I will be needing surgery soon that will cost an estimated $9,000 since I do not have health insurance.

On a brighter note, we got a new puppy and wanted to share some of the pics. She is a 6 week old Australian Shepherd. Enjoy. (PS - her name is Popi - sounds similar to puppy)

Where is WG headed for 2008? The short answer is up!

2008 will bring many new and exciting things to WG. The biggest and most prevalent change will be a face lift to the template. While we agree the current theme is good, it is not good enough for a professional gaming website and business. Thus, I present to you in the next posts a few screenshots of what is in the works, and we are hoping to have it implemented, tentatively, by the end of February should all things go as planned.

The next step is implementation and testing of the new ‘WG Account’ features, which will include the ability to join cash-prize tournaments. Cash-prize tournaments will have prizes that start at $400 per 4-man team and upwards of $1000 or more for larger tournaments. Our goal is to start running regular free and cash tournaments in late March or early April.

The third goal for 2008 is to have a fully implemented and functional league/season system set up. Leagues will be limited entry ladders that are time based, and at the end of the set time, will ‘end’ in a tournament. This will probably be the biggest addition to WG in 2008, and while we hope to have it ready by summer, things don’t always go our way. We will keep you up to date on the status of this as time goes on.

After a long delay in updates, I finally have some more time to get some stuff done, including updating my blog.

It has come to my attention that someone is attempting to build a competing service on a confusingly similar name to our trademark, World Gaming in use with online video game tournaments and a match-making system. I have consulted with a lawyer in this matter, and fully intend to take every measure necessary to put an end to the forthcoming infringement. If you would like to get more information, feel free to email me at flamewalker 04 -at- gmail dot com. If you would like to donate to our legal defense fund, you can email me for more information.

In other news, I just got word from a professional gamer that he is looking to give full sponsorship to a few good gamers. Playstation 3 is the console of choice here.

In yet other news, I am preparing a new, streamlined and cleaner look for the World Gaming site, after which time we will begin running and hosting free and paid entry tournaments for XBOX, XBOX 360, and Playstation 2 & 3. We will also be adding more games to the ladder list soon.

Stay tuned for more information!

I just found out today that Capital One is a sleazy company. And apparently they aren’t alone. A CLOSED credit card can still be charged up, and they will not decline the charge, and the account will be removed from the closed status. Fortunately for me it was only a $15 recurring charge, so it wasn’t too terrible. A stern phone call and email hopefully will help prevent any further problems.

This is a very disconcerting problem, as well as a major security hole. Based on what they told me, if a fraudster gets a hold of your credit card, presumably they can still charge up the card and you still are responsible to take care of the charges. Or a company that refuses to stop billing! What a headache!

A word of advice to the wise… Do NOT get a credit card from Capital One unless you are ready to go to every service you have and change your billing yourself! If you are looking for a credit card, I would highly recommend CitiBank. I have never had a problem with them, and when they close an account, at least so far in my experience, the account is actually CLOSED. No further charges are accepted. For other companies, you need to ask about what happens to an account after it is closed and know beforehand whether you have to cancel/change all your services to keep the account closed.

I have started the process of reorganizing my site, www.worldgaminginc.com into a few seperate but connected sites that will pinpoint and specialize each site to certain areas of interest. For instance, one site will focus on ladders (rankings) and tournaments for video games, and another will be a community site for gamers.

Hive from NamePros provided the stunningly creative fiery skull as found on www.ifragged.com for me. iFragged will be the “network nexus” of the WGI reorganization.

There are many things in the works that will take some time to develop, so stay tuned for updates!
